Mark home office, business trips and sick days

Every workday in the calendar has a status – Office, Home Office, Business Trip, or Sick Leave when you are ill. You change it with two clicks right in the day's row. This guide shows how, and what each status means for your target and your balance.

In short

  1. Click Calendar at the top – on a phone, in the bar at the bottom.
  2. In the day's row, click the colored status field, for example Office.
  3. Pick Home Office or Business Trip – target, break and balance work just like an office day.
  4. Off sick? Pick Sick Leave – the day counts as fulfilled.
  5. If the workday timer is running on that day, end it first – unless you only switch between Office, Home Office and Business Trip.

1 · Open the calendar

Click Calendar in the navigation at the top; on a phone, tap Calendar in the bottom bar. Each row is one day – a card on a phone. Days off are hidden; click All (on a phone, All Days in the filter menu) to show them.

2 · Click the status

Next to the date in each row is a colored field showing the day’s status; empty workdays show Office. Click it to open the list: Office, Home Office and Business Trip at the top, then Vacation, Sick Leave, Holiday, Special Leave, Gleittag (GT) and Weekend. Zeitbro saves your choice straight away and confirms with Status changed – only Vacation and Gleittag (GT) ask one more question first.

Days off show a plain Weekend label instead of the field. To change one of those, use the day editor as described in Add or fix time entries afterwards.

3 · Pick Home Office or Business Trip

Working from home or on the road? Pick Home Office or Business Trip. Switching from Office keeps the times you already entered. Target, break and balance are calculated exactly as on an office day.

This also works with the workday timer running, either in the row or at the top right of the Workday panel on the Home page, where the choices are labeled Office, Home and Trip. Choose there after you start, because starting sets the day to Office. See Start, pause and stop your workday.

4 · Mark a sick day

If you are ill, pick Sick Leave. The day then counts as a fulfilled workday, so there is nothing to make up. Zeitbro counts it as 8 hours, yet in the calendar your balance stays the same. The row then shows Sick Leave in place of the times.

Times you entered by hand for that day are deleted – the same goes for Vacation, Special Leave, Holiday, Gleittag (GT) and Weekend. If you switch back to Office later, enter them again.

End the timer first

While the workday timer is running or on Away on a given day, Zeitbro only lets you switch that day between Office, Home Office and Business Trip. For Sick Leave or any other status, end your workday first – otherwise you see Stop the timer before changing to this status.

5 · Special leave and the other statuses

Use Special Leave for paid time off granted on top of your vacation. Like vacation it counts as a fulfilled day, but it is not taken from your vacation days. Weekend turns a workday into a day off without a target; the calendar then hides it until you click All.

Vacation, flex days and public holidays have guides of their own: Book vacation days, Take a flex day and Public holidays by German state.

Frequently asked questions

Can I enter several sick days at once?

No. The Time Off Planner only handles vacation and flex days. Set sick days one by one in their rows – in advance, too.

Does home office count differently from the office?

Not for your target, break or balance. Only Office Attendance on the dashboard counts Office days with recorded work time and nothing else.

Does this replace calling in sick with my employer?

No. Zeitbro only records the day in your time tracking. How and by when you report sick is up to the law, your contract and your employer.
