Public holidays by German state
You don't enter public holidays in Zeitbro yourself. Zeitbro loads the statutory holidays of your German state and shows them in the calendar. All you choose is the state – and, in Bavaria, whether two local holidays apply to you.

What you need
- The German state you work in. You already picked it during setup; this is where you change it.
1 · Open Regional & Holidays
Click the gear icon at the top right of the navigation. On a phone, tap your profile picture or initials at the top right, then Settings. Choose Regional & Holidays – on a phone, through the button at the top right that opens Settings Sections.
2 · Pick your state
Click the field under Federal State (for Holidays) and choose one of the 16 states. The names are in German, for example Bayern for Bavaria. Zeitbro then shows the nationwide holidays plus those of your state. Holiday names appear in German too, such as Tag der Deutschen Einheit.
- None – Zeitbro shows only the nationwide holidays, such as Neujahr (New Year’s Day).
- If the field reads Select State, no state is set yet, and the calendar shows no holidays at all.
3 · Local holidays in Bavaria
Pick Bayern and Local Holiday Options (Bavaria) appears below with two checkboxes:
- Is office in Augsburg? (enables Hohes Friedensfest - Aug 8) – unticked at first. Tick it to add the Friedensfest.
- Is office in a Catholic community? (Maria Himmelfahrt - Aug 15) – ticked at first. Untick it to drop the Assumption holiday.
Sachsen and Thüringen get a similar checkbox for Fronleichnam (Corpus Christi). For now, though, Fronleichnam doesn’t appear in the calendar there even when ticked. If you need it, set the day to Holiday yourself in its calendar row.
4 · Save
Click Save Changes at the bottom. Zeitbro confirms with Settings Saved, and the calendar shows the holidays of the state you picked.
If you leave the settings without saving, your choice is lost – Zeitbro does not ask.
5 · Holidays in the calendar
In the Calendar, a holiday’s row shows its name where the times would be. The day counts as fulfilled: Zeitbro counts it as 8 hours, and in the calendar your balance stays the same. The status field in a holiday’s row won’t change the holiday. To record work on a holiday, use the day editor – the questions below explain how.
Zeitbro uses your holidays elsewhere too. The Time Off Planner skips them when you book vacation. When today is a holiday, the Workday panel on the Home page says Paid holiday — hours you work count on top. School holidays in your state get a small book icon in the calendar; they don’t change your target or balance.
Frequently asked questions
Can I work on a public holiday?
Yes. Click the holiday's name in the calendar, pick Office, Home Office or Business Trip in the editor, enter your start and end times and save. The holiday stays credited and your hours count on top – for holidays from October 1, 2026 on. To use the timer, confirm Today is a public holiday with Start anyway.
I don't work in Germany. What then?
Zeitbro currently only knows German public holidays. Even with None, the nationwide German holidays stay in your calendar, and you can't remove them for now. Enter your own country's holidays yourself with the Holiday status.
What happens if I change my state?
The calendar then shows earlier months with the new state's holidays as well. If you moved, set past holidays of your old state to Holiday yourself in their calendar rows where needed.
