Work time tracking is the recording of the working time actually performed – the start, end and breaks of a working day. It is the basis for documenting hours worked, overtime and rest breaks in a traceable way.

The term is mostly used synonymously with time tracking, but emphasises the labor-law context: it specifically concerns working time as defined by the German Working Hours Act (ArbZG) – not arbitrary time measurement.

Working time is the time from the start to the end of the activity – excluding rest breaks. The commute between home and workplace usually does not count, whereas business trips and assigned tasks do.
